The Green Bay Wedding Show at Shopko Hall was this past weekend and a record number of people attended. One of the most enjoyable aspects of the wedding show is getting to meet with couples in person so we have an opportunity to get to know a little bit about them and exactly what they are looking for in a reception. It’s nice to turn those voices on the phone into faces that we can remember. Having those ten minute conversations surrounded by other vendors give us the chance to point out other companies that we feel will add to the unique vision of their big night. After all, we care about more than just the music, we want the overall experience to be as memorable as possible. We also brought along our photobooth which gave people a chance to have a little fun and see what a great booth we have. It was definitely fun for us watching the brides try to coax their fiances and mothers to hop in for some quick pictures. Many of the couples that stopped by were very interested in “lighting up their night” with our custom lighting Uplighting packages.

In today’s world everyone has a camera with them at all times, from their smartphones to the smallest of digital cameras and they are snapping some great candid pictures. Now think about all of the pictures that your guests are going to be taking at YOUR wedding; most of them you will probably never see.

Here is a great idea that will get all of your guests sharing those pictures with each other and most importantly you! Setup an account on one of the many FREE picture sharing sites like Photobucket, Shutterfly, Flickr, or Snapfish to name a few. Then print up some business cards asking your guests to upload their pictures to the site, include the web address and password. Put the cards at each seat like you would a table favor  for them to take home. Make sure to have your DJ make an announcement about them several times throughout the reception.

Many years ago when I was in the restaurant business my family hated to go out to eat with me because I was always critiquing things and could not enjoy the meal, well the same holds true today whenever I attend a wedding as a guest. This is what I observed last month while attending a wedding as a “guest”. The first dance of the evening was for the bride & groom, when that dance ended the DJ (not one of ours) said “it is now time for the father/daughter dance”. Here is where things went terribly wrong. As the groom left the dance floor leaving his beautiful bride standing alone in the center of the dance floor the DJ started the music and Dad was nowhere around. She stood there anxiously looking around for her father, as did the guests. The DJ appeared to either not notice or didn’t know what to do so he let the song continue to play and the bride stand there by herself. Turns out, Dad was in the men’s room and made it out for the last 30 seconds of the song. Talk about ruining a once in a lifetime moment.

A professional DJ would not let this happen! It is our job to make sure that everyone is where they’re supposed to be when they are supposed to be there. Like making sure that your parents are at the dance floor to witness your first dance together as husband and wife, or making sure the your photographer isn’t in the middle of changing batteries in their camera.

A professional DJ should be more than just your “music” person!
